The interdisciplinary cooperation across various university faculties on questions of spatial development has a long tradition at the Leibniz University Hannover. Since 2007 the Research Initiative TRUST – Transdisciplinary Rural Development Studies focused on research, teaching, and transfer of, predominantly, the development of rural areas. Since 2010 the Research Initiative Space & Region – History Planning Development has put its focus on urban areas.
In order to concentrate the wide range of competencies and to jointly and even more strongly distinguish oneself on current issues regarding spatial planning and development, the members of “Space & Region” as well as the 'old' TRUST agreed to merge into a new Research Initiative TRUST Transdisciplinary | rural and urban | spatial transformation during a general meeting in autumn 2012. This Research Initiative combined researchers of sixteen institutes and seven faculties of the Leibniz University Hannover.
The Research Initiative TRUST has been established by the president of the Leibniz University Hannover on July 17, 2013. Nevertheless, our preceding Research Initiatives still are of great importance to us. The RI Space & Region has passed on to us, among other things, the lecture series as well as the interdisciplinary Research Training Group. From the RI TRUST we have inherited the lively tradition of workshops and conferences.
